Tally vs Zoho Books vs Dynamics 365 for CPG Brands Selling on Quick Commerce (2026)

Pick by stage. A founder-led CPG brand with one entity and an accountant who already works in Tally is well served by TallyPrime, which handles GST invoicing, connected e-invoicing and e-way bills, multiple GSTINs and batch-and-expiry inventory for a one-time licence plus annual TSS. A cloud-first team that wants many users, a REST API and published monthly pricing should choose Zoho Books. A brand with several entities, plants or CFAs and a finance team that needs real ERP controls graduates to Dynamics 365: Business Central for mid-size companies, Finance and Supply Chain Management at enterprise scale.

The point most comparisons miss: none of the three runs the quick commerce purchase-order lifecycle. Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart POs, SKU-level cuts, appointments, ASNs, GRN variances and settlement credit notes happen upstream of the ledger. Choose your accounting system for accounting and controls, and decide separately where the PO lifecycle lives and how it reaches the books.

Accounting and ERP choices for CPG brands selling on quick commerce

Before you read: FilFlo works with all three, differently

FilFlo is not an accounting system and does not sell any of these products. It feeds them: a live API integration with Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, and export formats for Tally and Zoho Books. We have no commercial reason to prefer one ledger over another, and we say exactly what each connection does in one section near the end. Prices and capabilities come from each vendor’s own pricing pages and documentation as read on October 13, 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • TallyPrime is the lowest-friction ledger for an India-first brand, but its connected e-invoicing and e-way bills depend on keeping TSS current.
  • Zoho Books is the cloud default with published pricing; e-invoicing starts at Standard, but warehouses and batch tracking start at Elite.
  • “Dynamics 365” is two different products for Indian brands: Business Central (mid-size, file-based e-invoicing out of the box) and Finance and Operations (enterprise, direct IRP connection for eligible taxpayers).
  • The 30-day IRP reporting limit for turnover of ₹10 crore and above makes month-end batch invoicing risky. Generate IRNs when documents are raised.
  • Do not change ERP to fix a PO problem. Quick commerce PO intake, cuts, appointments and GRNs live upstream of every ledger on this page.

TallyPrime vs Zoho Books vs Dynamics 365 at a Glance

Dynamics 365 is split into its two ERP products because they behave very differently for Indian GST and for integration. Prices are list prices before GST; implementation and support costs are extra and vary widely.

How We Evaluated

We read each vendor’s India pricing page, release notes and help documentation, and Microsoft Learn for the two Dynamics 365 products, on October 13, 2026. Regulatory points come from GSTN advisories and CBIC notifications. We did not run the products side by side, and we did not include implementation, customisation or support costs, which depend on the firm you hire and the scope you set.

The lens is a CPG brand selling to quick commerce, where the accounting system has to absorb a high volume of B2B invoices with IRNs across several GSTINs, credit notes driven by platform settlements, and batch-and-expiry inventory. Anything about tax law on this page is operational guidance, not tax advice; confirm specifics with your CA.

What Quick Commerce Asks of Your Accounting System

Quick commerce changes the shape of your books more than their size. Platforms buy on purchase orders against specific buyer GSTINs and delivery locations, so a brand supplying Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart across several states ends up invoicing many buyer entities from several of its own GSTINs, each with its own invoice series. Every invoice needs an IRN once you are above the e-invoicing threshold, and every inter-state truck needs an e-way bill where required.

Then the corrections arrive. GRNs accept less than you invoiced; settlement files carry deductions and returns that become credit notes. The ledger has to absorb all of that cleanly, but it should not be where the reasons are worked out: by the time a credit note reaches the books, the question of why the GRN was short should already be answered. Our ERP vs quick commerce order-to-cash explainer draws that boundary object by object.

TallyPrime: The India-First Ledger

TallyPrime is Windows desktop software sold as a perpetual licence (Silver for a single user at ₹22,500, Gold for multiple users on a network at ₹67,500, both plus GST) or as a rental from ₹750 a month for Silver. Remote access comes through TallyPrime Cloud Access, a paid add-on, or virtual user licences. Its GST depth is the reason most Indian brands start here: connected e-invoicing with IRN and QR generation in bulk, cancellation from inside the product, online e-way bills generated together with the e-invoice, and since Release 3.0, several GST registrations within one company. Inventory covers batches with manufacturing and expiry dates across multiple godowns.

The catch is that the connected GST services are part of Tally Software Services (TSS), so a perpetual licence without a current TSS renewal loses them. Integration runs through XML over HTTP, ODBC and TDL customisation, plus Excel import (Release 4.0) and JSON import and export (Release 7.0), which usually means a Tally developer for anything beyond file imports. Best for: founder-led brands with one entity and a CA-run ledger. Not for: teams that need many concurrent cloud users or API-driven integrations without a developer.

Zoho Books: The Cloud Default With Published Pricing

Zoho Books publishes its India prices: free for businesses with revenue up to ₹25 lakh a year, then Standard at ₹749 a month (billed annually, three users) up to Ultimate at ₹7,999 a month (25 users), per organisation, excluding taxes. E-invoicing is included from Standard: Zoho Books pushes invoices to the IRP and gets the IRN and QR back, and each location can connect with its own GSTIN. E-way bills can be generated from invoices, credit notes and delivery challans once Zoho is set up on the e-way bill portal. The REST API is well documented, with per-organisation rate limits and daily caps that scale by plan.

For a CPG brand, check two things. Warehouses and batch tracking start at the Elite plan, and each extra GSTIN location is a paid add-on that also carries its own invoice allowance, so price the plan for your real number of GSTINs and warehouses, not the entry tier. Every plan also caps invoices, which matters when each quick commerce PO becomes its own invoice. Best for: cloud-first teams wanting several users, an API and predictable pricing. Not for: brands needing manufacturing, warehouse management or multi-entity controls inside the ledger.

Dynamics 365: Two Different Products

Business Central is Microsoft’s ERP for small and mid-size companies, at ₹6,655 (Essentials) or ₹9,150 (Premium) per user a month on the India pricing page, paid yearly, plus GST. Its India localisation covers GST registration per location, many companies per environment, gate entry, TDS and TCS, and lot and expiry tracking with FEFO picking. For e-invoicing, Microsoft’s documentation describes exporting JSON and importing the signed response from the IRP, with e-way bills prepared through NIC’s offline tool; there is no documented direct IRP connection, so brands that want one add an extension from a GST provider. Its REST API (OData v4) is on by default.

Finance and Operations (Dynamics 365 Finance plus Supply Chain Management) is the enterprise product, at ₹17,470 per user a month for Finance on the India page, with Supply Chain Management priced separately and minimum licence counts in Microsoft’s product terms. Its India e-invoicing sends invoices to the IRP directly for taxpayers eligible for direct API access (others connect through a GSP), stores the IRN and signed QR code, and registers and cancels e-way bills through the same integration. Warehouse management covers locations, licence plates and GS1 barcodes with batch and expiry. Data moves over OData on public data entities.

Both are implemented by Microsoft implementation firms, and both need someone in-house who owns the ERP after go-live. Best for: Business Central for mid-size brands with several locations; Finance and Operations for multi-entity groups with plants or CFAs. Not for: a brand hoping a new ERP will fix quick commerce PO operations.

Keep Your Ledger. Fix the PO Side.

See a quick commerce PO go from intake to IRN, GRN and credit note, then reach Tally, Zoho Books or Dynamics 365 in the format each one expects.

Three GST Rules That Shape the Choice in 2026

Operational guidance, not tax advice. Confirm applicability with your CA and the portals (einvoice1.gst.gov.in, ewaybillgst.gov.in).

  1. E-invoicing above ₹5 crore. CBIC Notification 10/2023-Central Tax brought businesses with aggregate annual turnover above ₹5 crore into e-invoicing from August 1, 2023. Once you are above it, IRN generation has to be part of the daily invoice flow, not a month-end task.
  2. The 30-day reporting limit. A GSTN advisory of November 2024 says that from April 1, 2025, taxpayers with aggregate annual turnover of ₹10 crore and above cannot report invoices, credit notes or debit notes to the IRP more than 30 days after the document date. Settlement-driven credit notes keyed in bulk at quarter end can run into this.
  3. The 180-day e-way bill limit. Since January 1, 2025, e-way bills can only be generated against base documents dated within the previous 180 days, per a GSTN advisory reflected in Zoho Books’ own help pages. It rarely bites on fresh quick commerce dispatches, but it does on old stock transfers and returns.

Which One Should You Pick?

Pick by stage, and change the ledger only when the company’s structure changes, not when order volume does:

StageWhat it looks likePickWatch
Stage 1: first platformsOne entity, one or two GSTINs, a CA or one accountant, quick commerce just startingTallyPrime if your accountant lives in it; Zoho Books if you want cloud and multiple usersKeep a clean SKU master and customer list from day one; you will map them to every platform
Stage 2: multi-platformBlinkit, Zepto and Instamart plus marketplaces or distributors; several warehouses or GSTINs; a small finance teamStay on TallyPrime Gold or Zoho Books (Elite or above for warehouses) and add an order-to-cash layer upstreamThe ledger is rarely the bottleneck here; PO intake, cuts, GRN and credit notes are
Stage 3: structured companyMultiple legal entities, plants or CFAs, credit control, approval workflows, audit pressureDynamics 365 Business Central for mid-size; Finance and Supply Chain Management at enterprise scaleBudget for an implementation firm and per-environment rollout; keep the PO lifecycle outside the ERP

Between Tally and Zoho Books, the tie-breaker is usually people, not features: if your accountant and CA work in Tally and the team is in one office, stay; if the finance team is distributed, wants browser access and plans API-based integrations, move to Zoho Books before your transaction history gets long. Between Business Central and Finance and Operations, the tie-breaker is structure: the number of legal entities, plants and warehouses, and whether a group-level IT decision already exists.

How Each Connects to a Quick Commerce Order Layer

FilFlo is the order-to-cash operations layer for FMCG brands selling through quick commerce, along with modern trade, general trade distributors, marketplaces, D2C and institutional buyers. It runs the PO lifecycle upstream of the ledger (intake, SKU-level approval with reasons, GST invoicing with IRN and e-way bills, appointment tracking, GRN capture with variance reasons and settlement credit notes) and hands the books clean entries. The connection mode differs by ledger, and we state it exactly:

  • Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations: live native API (OData), bidirectional. On approval, the sales-order header and lines are pushed with per-site item codes; sales invoices are read back into the order trail; credit-limit holds surface as exceptions. Rolled out per environment (sandbox, UAT, production).
  • Tally: export formats, no connector or API. Report exports formatted for Tally import, carrying Tally Customer Name and Tally Item Name mappings stored on FilFlo masters. Outbound only, on your accounts team’s cadence.
  • Zoho Books: export formats, no connector or API. Invoice and credit-note exports in Zoho Books import format, with tax names mapped per customer. Outbound only; no line-level API sync.

FilFlo closes the GRN gap and manages credit notes against platform settlements today; deduction classification and payment reconciliation are on the roadmap. Pricing is quote-based. Not for: a brand looking for an accounting system. FilFlo does not keep ledgers, file returns or replace any product on this page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which accounting software is best for a CPG brand selling on Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart?

It depends on stage. A founder-led brand with one entity and an accountant who already works in Tally is well served by TallyPrime. A cloud-first team that wants multiple users, a REST API and published monthly pricing fits Zoho Books. A brand with several entities, plants or CFAs and a finance team that needs ERP controls graduates to Dynamics 365: Business Central for mid-size companies, Finance and Supply Chain Management at enterprise scale. None of them runs the quick commerce PO lifecycle itself; that sits upstream and feeds the books.

Is Tally enough for a brand selling on quick commerce?

For the books, often yes. TallyPrime handles GST invoicing with connected e-invoicing and e-way bills (as TSS services), multiple GSTINs in one company since Release 3.0, and batches with expiry dates across godowns. What it does not do is ingest Blinkit, Zepto or Instamart POs, record SKU-level cuts with reasons, track appointments or reconcile GRNs. Brands typically keep Tally as the ledger and run those steps in an order-to-cash layer that exports clean entries into it.

Tally or Zoho Books: which is better for GST e-invoicing?

Both generate IRNs from inside the product. TallyPrime connects to the invoice registration portal directly, including bulk generation and cancellation, as part of its TSS services. Zoho Books includes e-invoicing from its Standard plan and lets each location connect with its own GSTIN. The practical differences are elsewhere: Tally is Windows desktop software with cloud access as an add-on, while Zoho Books is cloud-native with per-plan invoice caps.

When should a CPG brand move from Tally or Zoho Books to Dynamics 365?

When the problem is controls and structure rather than invoices: multiple legal entities, plants or CFAs with their own item codes, credit-limit enforcement, approval workflows, warehouse management and audit requirements that a small-business accounting tool handles through workarounds. Do not move ERP to fix a PO problem. If your pain is PO intake, cuts, appointments and GRN gaps, a new ERP will not solve it.

Dynamics 365 Business Central or Finance and Operations for an Indian brand?

Business Central is Microsoft's ERP for small and mid-size companies, licensed per user with no minimum seat count in its product terms; its India localisation covers GST, but e-invoices and e-way bills are exchanged as JSON files unless you add an extension. Finance and Supply Chain Management target large, multi-entity businesses, have minimum licence counts, and connect to the IRP directly for eligible taxpayers. Most brands reach Finance and Operations through a group or enterprise decision, not by outgrowing Business Central.

How does FilFlo connect to Tally, Zoho Books and Dynamics 365?

In three different ways, stated precisely. Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations is a live native API integration over OData, bidirectional: approved orders are pushed as sales orders and invoices are read back. Tally and Zoho Books are export formats only, with no connector or API: Tally-formatted report exports carrying Tally Customer Name and Tally Item Name mappings, and Zoho Books invoice and credit-note exports with per-customer tax-name mapping.

Does the 30-day e-invoice reporting limit affect quick commerce brands?

It can. A GSTN advisory of November 2024 says taxpayers with aggregate annual turnover of ₹10 crore and above cannot report invoices, credit notes or debit notes to the IRP more than 30 days after the document date, from April 1, 2025. Brands that batch invoices or credit notes into their accounting system at month end should generate IRNs when the document is raised, not when it is posted. This is operational guidance, not tax advice.
