Blinkit vs Zepto vs Swiggy Instamart for Brands: POs, Appointments, GRNs and Payments Compared

All three platforms buy from brands on purchase orders, but they differ in how the PO reaches you and what they expect before the truck arrives. Blinkit sends POs electronically (EDI, with an API webhook option) and completed its move to an inventory-led model in September 2025. Zepto’s receiving flow includes an advance shipping notice that it reconciles against the PO line by line. Swiggy Instamart POs are worked from its brand portal as CSV downloads or on-screen rows, with dates that can arrive without a year, and Instamart was still on a marketplace model as of August 2026. Payment terms, margins and penalties are set in each brand’s contract and none of the three publishes them, so this comparison covers process, not commercials.

For an ops or finance lead supplying all three, the practical conclusion is one process with three intake routes. The failure points are shared: the buyer entity and GSTIN on each PO, item-code mapping, PO expiry racing the appointment, GRN variances, and settlement files that have to become credit notes. The platform differences sit mostly at the two ends: how the PO arrives, and what has to be declared before delivery.

Before you read: what this page can and cannot tell you

None of the three platforms publishes its vendor process documentation. Everything here comes from trade press, the public help documents of software integrators that connect to these platforms, and the workflows FilFlo already describes on its own integration pages. Where we could not verify something, the table says “per your vendor agreement or portal SOP” instead of guessing. We do not quote payment terms, margins or penalties. FilFlo connects to all three, and we say exactly how in a separate row and section.

Key Takeaways

  • Blinkit completed its move to an inventory-led model in September 2025, when sellers had to switch to supplying against formal POs with Blinkit’s own entity as merchant of record; its POs arrive electronically.
  • Zepto is the ASN platform: declare what is on the truck before it arrives, and Zepto reconciles it against the PO line by line.
  • Swiggy Instamart POs are worked from its brand portal (CSV or on-screen rows); watch for yearless dates and a possible shift from its marketplace model.
  • PO validity, appointment rules, dispute windows, credit days and penalties are contractual and unpublished on all three. Get them in writing during onboarding.
  • The money is won or lost after dispatch: GRN variances and settlement files decide what gets paid, on every platform.

Blinkit vs Zepto vs Swiggy Instamart: Side by Side

Read the table as of October 2026. Platforms change their vendor processes often, and your own onboarding documents override anything here.

How We Evaluated

We compared the three platforms on the stages that decide whether a brand gets paid in full: PO intake, validity, appointment, ASN, GRN, settlement and payment. For each cell we used, in order of preference: dated trade press (for business-model facts), public help documents from integrators that connect to the platforms (for PO and ASN mechanics), and the workflows FilFlo already documents on its Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart pages.

We excluded agency blogs and unattributed pages, which make many confident claims about fees, deposits and fill-rate thresholds that we could not trace to a primary source. Where nothing reliable exists, we say so. Payment terms, margins and penalties vary by contract, and we do not publish numbers for them.

Blinkit: Electronic POs and a Fully Inventory-Led Model

Blinkit’s biggest recent change was completing its move to an inventory-led model. MediaNama reported in July 2025 that from September 1, 2025, Blinkit would accept stock only through formal purchase orders, with its in-house entity, Blink Commerce Private Limited, as merchant of record, and that remaining marketplace sellers had to opt in or be delisted. For a brand, that means the PO is the contract: you invoice Blinkit’s buying entity against the GSTIN and delivery location on each PO, and nothing ships without one.

The PO itself carries a header and lines in Blinkit’s own item codes, plus the buyer entity, GSTIN and delivery location. Integrator help documents describe POs arriving over EDI by default, with an API webhook the platform can enable against your vendor ID, and ASNs supported but not documented as mandatory. Delivery runs against a slot per PO; the booking route and what happens to a PO that misses its slot are set in your vendor SOP.

On the money side, the settlement (PRN) file exported from the seller portal is the document finance works from. It is also the cleanest input of the three for matched credit notes, because it carries merchant invoice references that tie back to your invoices. Advertising runs separately through Blinkit Ads.

Zepto: The ASN Platform

Zepto’s distinctive step comes between dispatch and delivery. An advance shipping notice declares which PO is being fulfilled, the invoice details and the quantities on the way, and reaches Zepto before the goods do. Zepto reconciles the ASN against its own PO line by line, so receiving expectations are set before the delivery appointment rather than argued about at the dock. The corollary for brands: an ASN keyed separately from the invoice is a second copy of the truth that can drift. Build it from the invoice.

PO intake has been changing. Integrator documentation describes Zepto POs historically arriving as emailed PDFs, and a 2026 integrator article describes an EDI API route, enabled on request to Zepto, through which the integrator fetches POs by API and sends the ASN when the shipment is manifested. Which route you are on depends on your onboarding. POs carry Zepto item codes and the buyer entity and delivery location, which decide the customer account and the fulfilling warehouse.

Zepto’s corporate structure has also been in motion: Inc42 reported in January 2025 that its parent company procures goods directly from brands, and that a new marketplace entity could let it change that structure ahead of a planned IPO. Do not assume the buyer name and GSTIN on your POs stay constant; map them per PO.

Swiggy Instamart: Portal-Driven POs and a Model in Transition

Instamart POs are worked from the Instamart Brand Portal. Teams download the PO file as a CSV, or copy PO rows straight off the portal screen, and integrators also describe POs being sent by email. The quirk that bites spreadsheets is dates: portal dates can arrive without a year, in DD-MMM formats like “14-Aug”, and Excel will guess the year or swap day and month. A wrong expiry or delivery date silently breaks appointment tracking.

The business model is the bigger watch item. Business Today reported in August 2026 that Instamart follows a marketplace model with inventory owned by third-party sellers, and that a shareholder vote to cap foreign ownership would allow Swiggy to own and sell inventory directly. If Instamart moves to an inventory-led model as Blinkit did, the buyer entity on your POs, and therefore your invoicing and credit-note set-up, may change. Keep buyer-entity and GSTIN mapping per PO, not per platform.

Three Platforms, One PO Process

See a Blinkit, a Zepto and an Instamart PO enter through their own routes and then run through the same approval, invoice, appointment, GRN and credit-note flow.

What Is the Same on All Three

Strip away intake and ASN, and the lifecycle is identical. It is described stage by stage in our quick commerce order-to-cash guide; in short:

  1. Normalise the PO. Map platform item codes to your SKUs and case sizes, and the delivery location to the right buyer entity, GSTIN and invoice series. Keep the original document.
  2. Approve with reasons. Cut what you cannot serve at SKU level, with a reason and an approver, so fill-rate loss can be explained later.
  3. Invoice correctly. GST invoice on the right seller and buyer GSTIN, with an IRN where e-invoicing applies to you, and an e-way bill for qualifying movements (see einvoice1.gst.gov.in and ewaybillgst.gov.in; operational guidance, not tax advice).
  4. Make the appointment. Dispatch against the slot. A missed appointment usually means rebooking, and often an expired PO.
  5. Close with the GRN. Compare ordered, approved, invoiced and received quantities per line; type every variance as short received, damaged, rejected, excess or wrong item.
  6. Settle. Turn settlement files into credit notes matched to invoices, and explain the remaining gap between invoiced and paid with evidence.

Questions to Settle With Each Platform During Onboarding

Because so much is contractual, the best protection is to get it in writing early. For each platform, ask your category or vendor manager:

  • How long is a PO valid, can it be extended, and what happens to goods delivered after expiry?
  • How are appointments booked and rescheduled, and what happens on a missed slot?
  • Is an ASN required for our account, through which route, and by when?
  • How are short, damaged, rejected and excess quantities recorded at GRN, and how long do we have to dispute them?
  • What happens to rejected stock, who bears its cost, and how is it documented?
  • What settlement documents do we receive, in what format, and how do deductions show up?
  • What are the credit days, and what fill-rate or service-level expectations carry consequences?

Which One Should You Pick (or Fix First)?

Most brands reading this supply all three, so the real decision is which platform’s process to fix first. Start where the money leaks:

If your problem isStart here
Highest PO volume and you still re-key itAutomate intake for that platform first. Blinkit’s electronic PO route makes it the most natural candidate for full automation.
ASN mismatches or arguments at the dockFix Zepto first: build the ASN from the invoice, not from a separate sheet.
Date errors, missing lines and expired POs found lateFix Instamart intake first: one person, one daily import, dates normalised with the year, unmapped codes cleared before approval.
Finance keys credit notes by handStart with Blinkit settlements: the PRN file is the most mechanical to turn into matched credit notes.
Choosing your first platform to launch onDecide on demand in your cities and the commercial terms you negotiate. Operationally all three need the same PO-to-GRN discipline.

One rule holds across all three: measure fill rate with a stated denominator (ordered or approved quantity) and keep it consistent per platform, or the comparison between platforms means nothing.

Where FilFlo Fits

FilFlo is the order-to-cash operations layer for FMCG brands selling through quick commerce, as well as modern trade, general trade distributors, marketplaces, D2C and institutional buyers. It handles the three platforms through three different routes, stated precisely. Blinkit is a live webhook workflow through FilFlo-operated middleware: POs land with item codes mapped and the buyer entity resolved, GRN data joins the same order trail, and PRN files exported from the portal become bulk credit notes, one per merchant invoice ID. Zepto is live PO intake plus outbound ASN submission, with the ASN assembled from the actual invoice; ASN is enabled per account. Swiggy Instamart is a live file workflow: CSV import or paste from the portal into the PO Tracker, where yearless dates are normalised and unmapped codes surface at intake.

After intake every PO runs the same flow: SKU-level approval with reasons and crate-MOQ rules, GST invoicing with IRN and e-way bills on the right GSTIN profile, appointment status and crate/box utilisation in the platform-PO tracker, and GRN capture with invoice-vs-GRN variance reason codes. FilFlo closes the GRN gap and manages credit notes against platform settlements today; deduction classification and payment reconciliation are on the roadmap. FilFlo is an independent product with no endorsement from any platform; pricing is quote-based.

Not for: a brand on one platform with a handful of POs a week. A disciplined spreadsheet and the onboarding questions above will do more for you today.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart send purchase orders to brands?

Differently. Integrator documentation describes Blinkit POs arriving electronically, over EDI by default, with an API webhook the platform can enable against your vendor ID. Zepto POs have historically arrived as emailed PDFs, and integrator docs from 2026 describe an EDI API route that Zepto enables on request. Swiggy Instamart POs are available on its brand portal as CSV downloads (rows can also be copied off the screen), and integrators describe them being emailed. Your own vendor onboarding decides which route applies to your account.

Does Zepto require an ASN from brands?

An advance shipping notice is part of Zepto's receiving flow: the ASN is submitted before the goods arrive and Zepto reconciles it against its PO line by line, so receiving knows what is coming before the delivery appointment. Whether it is mandatory for your account is set in your vendor terms. The safest practice is to build the ASN from the actual invoice, so what you declare matches what you billed.

What happens if a quick commerce PO expires before delivery?

POs carry delivery dates and expire. A missed appointment usually means rebooking, and often an expired PO, after which the goods cannot be delivered against it. Exact validity windows and whether a PO can be extended or must be reissued depend on the platform and your vendor agreement; none of the three publishes them. Track every open PO against its expiry and appointment status daily rather than discovering it at the gate.

What are the payment terms, margins and penalties on Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart?

They are set in each brand's contract and are not published by the platforms, so we do not quote numbers. Credit days, margin structures, fill-rate expectations and penalties differ by brand, category and negotiation. What you can control is evidence: tie every payment back to PO, invoice, GRN and credit note so you can explain the gap between invoiced and paid.

Is Blinkit a marketplace or an inventory model for brands?

Inventory-led. MediaNama reported in July 2025 that Blinkit was switching to an inventory-led model from September 1, 2025, accepting stock only through formal purchase orders, with its in-house entity Blink Commerce Private Limited as merchant of record. For a brand, that means invoicing Blinkit's buying entity against its POs and GSTINs.

How should brands handle GRN shorts and credit notes across the three platforms?

Capture the platform's GRN against the same PO line as the order, invoice and dispatch, and type every variance (short received, damaged, rejected, excess, wrong item) instead of writing remarks. On Blinkit, the settlement (PRN) file exported from the seller portal is the raw input for matched credit notes. Rules for disputes and rejected stock vary by platform and agreement, so keep evidence per PO from the start.

Can one system handle POs from all three platforms?

Yes, if it accepts three different intake routes and then runs one process. FilFlo, for example, takes Blinkit POs through a live webhook workflow on FilFlo-operated middleware, Zepto POs live with ASN submission enabled per account, and Swiggy Instamart POs by CSV import or portal paste. After intake, every PO goes through the same approval, invoicing, GRN and credit-note flow.
